The Dialogues of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc (sung in English)

Black Box Theater   As the Reign of Terror continues in Revolutionary France, religious communities become the target of the Revolutionary Authorities. Priests, nuns, and all persons with religious commitment, are told to recant their vows and faith. This led to the nationalization of church property, the exile of some 30,000 priests and nuns, and the execution of hundreds more. Our opera story retells the true story of the Carmelite Community at Compiègne. There each nun must face her own fear as she determines if she will die together with her sisters in faith, as martyrs on the guillotine.
